Club La Santa – March 2024
Shirley Wilkinson
Over the years, Farnham Tri Club has organised many weeklong trips to Club La Santa in Lanzarote,
traditionally in March. As the demographics of the club have changed, many have stepped away
from triathlon, changed their focus to raising a young family or just no longer feel the need to spend
a week overseas training. The annual FTC Group has dwindled as a result. There still remains,
however, a group of stalwarts who enjoy the weather and facilities that are available and have
continued to visit on a yearly basis.
Most recently, a group of 8 club members who flew out for a week in the sun. Three had already
enrolled in a weeklong swim camp where we swam twice a day, following a set plan to improve our
swim fitness and technique. Each individual received a swim analysis via video along with a free t
shirt, swim cap, some Maurten goodies and an evening meal out to finish off the week. We made
new friends and reunited with swim camp friends from previous years.
What did the rest of the group get up to? Well, they certainly made the most of their time,
cramming in some new activities as well as joining in with the favourites like the morning
gymnastics, an all over body warm up for those who aren’t familiar with the Club La Santa routine.
After the gymnastics is a group walk or run around the lagoon or slightly longer for those with more
energy. One of our group had already completed her swim before most of us were out of bed,
booking a lane space at 0700 every morning!
Hiring bikes, be it e-bikes, road bikes or mountain bikes is always a firm favourite. With some
excellent cycle routes ranging from short to long or guided to self guided, there are some unique and
stunning landscapes to take in along the way and of course the obligatory coffee and cake stops to
discover.
Club La Santa is always developing and expanding the activities they offer. New for this year are
some single paddle tennis courts and a behind the scenes tour. This is where you get to see
underneath two of the three 50m Olympic sized swimming pools and learn about the filtration
systems.
The Crossfit area was well used and the Stretch and Relax class is also a firm favourite at the end of
the day. Some of the other activities that were tried were Reformer Pilates, Dance, Stand Up Paddle
Boarding, Olympic Weight Lifting, Bouldering, Deep Water Aqua, TRX, Kettlebells, Recover Faster,
HIIT Swimming, How to Tumble turn, Hatha Yoga and an excursion to Teguise Market.
So what did we do when we weren’t exercising? We had time to relax by the leisure pool, go for a
stroll and of course enjoy some fabulous meals at The Pool Bar, The Plaza and El Lago.
