The Comrades Marathon is the Ultimate Running Challenge. Cathy Berry did the world’s oldest ultra run, 87km, in 10 hours 20 minutes. The marathon is between Durban and Pietermaritzburg in South Africa. The ‘UP’ run from Durban and Pietermaritzburg was in 2026. In 2027 it will be the ‘DOWN’ run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Cathy already has a place for the 100th race in 2027. 

It is an absolutely fantastic experience and a very hard day on the feet without doubt! The challenge is immense, but the support along the entire route is simply incredible. From the spectators, gospel singers, aid station volunteers to fellow runners, the atmosphere was amazing. Crossing that finish line after such a long and demanding day was an unforgettable moment.

The 2027 ‘DOWN’ run takes place on 13th June 2027. It’s tough, it’s emotional, and it will definitely test you—but Comrades is so much more than just a marathon.
